Weekly Notes from the Head of Middle School, 10/4

Dear Middle School Families,

I want to thank all of the volunteer drivers that made our incredible 7th grade Pathfinder trip possible. One day left the students wanting more and two days exhausted them! Mr. Killeen, Ms. Straky, and Dr. De Jesus were excellent chaperones and strongly encouraged students to challenge themselves and nurture their curiosities. Pathfinder was also hosting 4th grade students from another school and during this time, our 7th graders served as wonderful role models. I am very proud of the risks they took, the way they conducted themselves, and the bond and memories that have been created.

Here are a few notes moving forward:

MS Halloween Dance
The Middle School Student Council will be hard at work organizing the details of the Halloween Dance scheduled for Friday, October 27th from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm. The students are encouraged to dress up in their best Halloween costume and be prepared to munch on spooky snacks and dance the night away to music played by a local DJ. The dance will be chaperoned by our staff, so parents, you can have the night off but please be sure to pick up your child by 9:00 pm. Tickets to the dance are $10. Students can pay Mr. Brooks or Ms. Kaban. You can also pay at the door on the night of the dance.

All costumes must be school appropriate and any student wearing a costume deemed to be inappropriate will be sent home or asked to change. Inappropriate costumes include excessive blood, revealing or provocative outfits, and costumes that include weapons. Student Council Representatives will be working hard at creating a fun and spooky dance for everyone to enjoy, student participation is strongly encouraged.

Catalina Island - 6th Grade
The Catalina trip is designed to excite students about science, help students understand their role in the Earth’s ecosystems, teach students to interact with animals and nature in a responsible manner, provide experiences that build self-esteem and teamwork and give students an outdoor experience that will inspire them throughout their lives.

An impressive number of students will be attending the 6th grade trip to Catalina Island. The official cost of the trip is $340 per student. Please make checks payable to Palm Valley School and pay by October 27th. In the meantime, it is a good idea to start preparing the students packing list now in preparation for the trip. If you made a t-shirt or sweater order, those checks should be made to Guided Discoveries. Students who cannot attend due to financial challenges should see Mr. Brooks.

After-Care Pickup
For safety and security, if you are picking up a student from After-Care, you are required to enter through the reception area. Families are not allowed to enter the administration building through side or classroom doors.
