Weekly Notes from the Head of Middle School, 10/31

Dear Middle School Families,

Happy Halloween! Our morning was filled with merriment as our 6th, 7th and 8th graders took their PS, PK and Kindergarten buddies on a costume parade down the Fire Walk and then off to Trick-or-Treat through the Middle School and Upper School Buildings. I’m not sure which group was more excited - the MS students or their little buddies. Thank you to all the families who joined in the festivities this morning. Have a wonderful and safe Halloween!

MS Halloween Dance
The Middle School Student Council has scheduled the Halloween Dance for Friday, November 2nd from 7 pm - 9 pm. Students are encouraged to dress up in their best Halloween costume. Tickets to the dance are $10. Students can purchase tickets from Ms. Jimenez at the MS front desk. You can also pay at the door on the night of the dance. All costumes must be school appropriate and any student wearing a costume deemed to be inappropriate will be sent home or asked to change. Inappropriate costumes include excessive blood or weapons, and clothing that is too revealing.

Upper School Play: The Drowsy Chaperone
Our Upper School Drama Department’s winter production is a parody of American musical comedies of the 1920s. A middle-aged, asocial musical theatre zealot sits in a chair in his small apartment playing the record of his favorite musical, the 1928 hit...The Drowsy Chaperone. The show comes to life onstage with all its crazy-fun characters singing and dancing in 1920’s style. As the story unfolds, the man in the chair wryly comments to the audience on the music, the story, the actors and his own complicated life. Join in on the fun and laughter by purchasing your tickets now at pvs.org/tickets.

PVS Events Pass
Save $85 on our fundraising events this year with a PVS Events Pass! This $300 Pass includes a ticket to Wine Night (November 9th, 2018), our Annual "Puttin' on the Ritz" Gala (March 2nd, 2019), and the Fashion Week El Paseo reception (March 21st, 2019 - includes premier seating to the runway show). Service Trip to Puerto Rico
We have extended the deadline and opened up the Global Works community service trip to Puerto Rico to all Upper School and 8th Grade students. The new deadline to apply is now Thursday, November 15th. The trip is scheduled for Saturday, February 16th - Friday, February 22nd. Please email me with any questions or concerns. You can register online here.

Parking Around Campus
A reminder that there are many designated parking areas for our family visitors, and guests. There are, however, a few places we ask current families not to park. One of them is in the senior parking spots. The first 13 parking spots in the lot adjacent to the LS field, are senior only parking spots. You will know which spots these are because they are colorfully painted and personalized by each of our seniors. Spots that have been painted black, are open for family and guest parking. Additionally, please do not park in any spots that have a reserved sign. These are spots that have been sponsored by our families and remain reserved for the named individuals on the sign. If you’re interested in purchasing a parking spot, you can speak to Mrs. Wiseley for more information.
