Dear Middle School Families,
Yesterday I hosted my first parent coffee and I’m not going to lie - I was a bit nervous! Since beginning this new role, I have been experiencing a number of firsts. Some have been surprisingly rewarding and others a little daunting, but I can honestly say, I am enjoying every moment of it. The main reason for that is the challenge. There is a lot of joy for me in learning new things and a strong sense of accomplishment overcomes me during the process. I find this to be the case for students as well, and it is a privilege to spend my days watching our students overcome challenges, acquire a sense of accomplishment and develop as confident individuals. There is no other work I can imagine doing, other than my job as a mother, and nowhere else I’d rather be doing it. Thank you to the 6th grade parents who joined me for coffee yesterday, I very much enjoyed our time together. I look forward to next week with 7th grade! Meet me in the MPR on Tuesday, October 23rd at 8:30 am.
Session 2 of our hot lunch program begins Monday, October 29th. Please print and complete the MS/US Hot Lunch Form and return to Ms. Jimenez at the front desk by Thursday, October 25th.
The Great ShakeOut
October is Safety Month. We are participating in the "Great California Shakeout" on Thursday, October 18th. This is a time where most schools, government offices, and many businesses practice what to do in an earthquake. Our students and teachers will practice "duck, cover, and hold," along with our all-school evacuation procedure. For more information, visit https://www.shakeout.org/
GLAAD National Spirit Day 2018
This is an opportunity to speak out against LGBTQ bullying and stand with LGBTQ youth, who disproportionately face bullying and harassment because of their identities. This Thursday, October 18th, the Palm Valley GSA urges those who wish to participate in Middle and Upper School to GO PURPLE! Students must wear uniform bottoms and adhere to the PVS Dress Code for the shirts. For more information, visit glaad.org/spiritday.
