Dear Middle School Families,
Thank you for participating in our Student Led Conferences. I love this time with my advisees and their families because it is an excellent opportunity for students to show and validate their academic responsibility. Responsibility is one of the most admirable traits a person can possess and when students take an active role in their learning, they become accountable for their academic success. This accountability is key in having them make choices and take actions that will lead them to achieve their goals. I know that some students struggle with filling in their Student Led Conference scripts, but having them take the lead at conferences is an active way of teaching them to take initiative for their learning outcomes. Listening to them own their educational experience is one of the most rewarding elements of being a teacher.
GLAAD National Spirit Day 2019
This is an opportunity to speak out against LGBTQ bullying and stand with LGBTQ youth, who disproportionately face bullying and harassment because of their identities. This Thursday, October 17th, the Palm Valley GSA urges those who wish to participate in Middle and Upper School to GO PURPLE! Students must wear uniform bottoms and adhere to the PVS Dress Code for the shirts.
7th Grade Trip to Pathfinder Ranch
This excursion is an Outdoor Education Program providing safe and meaningful learning experiences intent on building conservation awareness and confidence in becoming responsible global citizens. Pathfinder offers academic and recreational classes that help build communication and problem-solving skills and perseverance. This trip is planned for Monday, October 21st - Wednesday, October 23rd.
Middle School Parent Coffee
Please join me at 8:15 am in the MPR on Wednesday, October 23 for our 6th, 7th and 8th Grade Parent Coffee. This is an excellent opportunity to meet other families and ask me questions about your student’s classes.
Golf Cart Parade
Participate in the 55th Annual Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade with PVS! The parade and festival takes place on Sunday, Oct. 27th and PVS will be participating... Thanks to Boy Scout Troop #707 and Mr. Kroe, we will be creating a themed golf cart and large photo frames for crowd engagement and Palm Valley brand awareness. We encourage all students to participate in the parade by walking with our group or supporting from the sidelines. The more walkers we have, the more impact we make! The theme this year is Let the Good Times Roll, so any 50’s and 60’s style costumes are encouraged (men can wear a plain white t-shirt, rolled up jeans and ray bans and women can wear poodle skirts etc.). We will meet at the Bank of America at 10:30 am if you plan on walking in the parade. Email Abby Sturgeon at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information!
Our Annual Fall Festival is coming up on Saturday, November 2nd. The Parent Association has been hard at work to ensure it's the best one yet! Join us for games, rides, face painting, a petting zoo, food, crafts and more from 3 pm - 6 pm in the lower school field. We’ve also added new activities this year including a gaming truck, a laser tag course and an interactive photo mirror (just to name a few). There really is something for ALL ages! Admission is free and you can purchase tickets for the games and activities at the event that day. This event is open to the public.
Each year, the Palm Valley School community contributes to enhancing the education of our Firebirds through the Annual Fund. There is always a 100% participation from members of the Board of Trustees and from PVS staff members showing their Firebird pride. This annual fund is important to our students and families at Palm Valley. Please remember to submit your contribution or gift in kind. Please click on the link to give today!
This fall, the Palm Valley Middle School Drama class of thirteen 7th and 8th-grade actors has taken on a challenging piece of theater to stage for the community. In the award-winning play by Reginald Rose called 12 ANGRY JURORS, a dozen very different personalities are sequestered to deliberate the fate of a young man accused of murder. In a two-act, 90-minute drama, beliefs clash and emotions rise as four men and eight women argue the guilt or innocence of the accused. Performances are: Friday, November 8, Saturday, November 9 and Friday, November 15 at 7:30 pm. There is a matinee performance on Sunday, November 10, in the afternoon at 2:30 pm. Tickets available online here.
The Palm Valley Spirit Store is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00-3:30 pm. It is a great place to find all the Palm Valley gear you need to show your Firebird pride, as well as purchase gently used uniforms.
