Weekly Notes from Head of Middle School, 10/2

Dear Middle School Families,

I want to thank the parents who were able to drive us to the performance of The Bully Plays last Wednesday. It would not have been possible for us to attend without you and I hope you know how much it is appreciated! Our Advisory lesson that afternoon centered around more discussions of the different types of bullying and students were able to share many important insights.

While you read this, I am probably paddling down the Colorado River with many of the 8th graders on their Outdoor Education experience. I cannot wait to return and share all the wonderful stories and memories we are surely creating. If you have a 6th or 7th grader, please seriously consider sending them on their class trip. It is an experience I know they will always remember!

Here is some information about the upcoming middle school trips:

6th grade trip to CIMI
The Catalina Island Marine Institute at Toyon Bay is an outdoor education science camp providing students with experiences that build self-esteem and self-confidence. Students will learn the basic concepts of marine science and island ecology. The trip is planned for Wednesday, October 16th - Friday, October 18th. Permission forms have been sent home, please return those with payment to Sarai at the Middle School front desk by Friday, Oct. 4th.

7th Grade Trip to Pathfinder Ranch
This excursion is an Outdoor Education Program providing safe and meaningful learning experiences intent on building conservation awareness and confidence in becoming responsible global citizens. Pathfinder offers academic and recreational classes that help build communication and problem-solving skills and perseverance. This trip is planned for Monday, October 21st - Wednesday, October 23rd. Forms and payment are due Friday, Oct. 4th to Sarai at the Middle School front desk.

Student Led Conferences
Student Led Conferences are coming up Wednesday, October 9th. There will be no regular classes scheduled on this day. Your student’s advisor will send an email with details on how to set up an appointment.

Annual Fund
Each year, the Palm Valley School community contributes to enhancing the education of our Firebirds through the Annual Fund.  There is always a 100% participation from members of the Board of Trustees and from PVS staff members showing their Firebird pride.  This annual fund is important to our students and families at Palm Valley. Please remember to submit your contribution or gift in kind.  Please click on the link to give today!  

Spirit Store
The Palm Valley Spirit Store is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00-3:30pm.  It is a great place to find all the Palm Valley gear you need to show your Firebird pride, as well as purchase gently used uniforms.  

October Dinner Out
Do you want a fun family night out while benefiting Palm Valley School? Mark your calendar for Tuesday, October 15th.  Dine-in all day, from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm at The Slice. 20% of dine-in, takeout, catering and beverages benefit PVS. Please present this flyer.
