Weekly Notes from the Head of Middle School, Sept. 6

Dear Middle School Families,

Welcome back! It has been only five days since the students have started and they are already hitting their stride. I am so proud of the way our 6th grade class has learned to use their lockers, transition from class to class, and demonstrate maturity. Our 7th grade class has grown up! Full of enthusiasm and positive energy, this class will surely make this year fun and exciting. Our 8th grade class is small but powerful! Full of creative ideas, honest ambition, and strong work ethic. I could not ask for a better 8th grade class to be the role models for the rest of our Middle School. I am looking forward to learning and growing along with our students as I get to know them and their families.

Here are some reminders to support our daily routine and highlight some upcoming events:

Chromebooks

7th and 8th graders are not allowed to checkout Chromebooks. They have already been issued their own Chromebook, so they must be responsible for bringing them into school and ensure that they are charged and ready for use. Our 6th graders can check out a Chromebook daily but must return them by the end of the day. Students will be held accountable for the damage or loss of any Chromebooks that they have been assigned, as stated in the signed agreement.

7th Grade Pathfinder Trip

In the August mailing, 7th grade families were given Pathfinder Student Packets to complete and return to school. The trip is scheduled for September 25 - 27th. We will be departing school on Monday at 10:30 AM and return to school on Wednesday at 1:45 PM. If you wish for your child to participate in the exciting two-day adventure, which is linked to our science curriculum, please return the student information packets to Ms. Kaban in the front office by Friday. Payment can be attached to the permission slip or be made separately by Friday, September 15th. We will be in the need of parent drivers. If you have been cleared to drive, please indicate on the permission slip that you are willing to drive some students up to Idyllwild for the purpose of the trip. Your time would be greatly appreciated.

Back to School Night

We are looking forward to seeing you at the Middle and Upper School Back to School Night next week on September 14th. The evening will start at 6:00 pm in the MPR in the Middle School building. After a brief introduction, families will follow their student’s schedule and learn about each class from the teachers that teach them. It is a very exciting event and we look forward to welcoming you!

Middle School Gates

The MS gates will be open every morning at 7:45 AM and locked at 8:15 AM. The gates will reopen during pick-up time at 3:20 PM and be locked again at 3:35 PM. If you are visiting or walking your child onto campus during the locked periods, please come around to the front of the building and sign-in.

Utensils at Lunch Time

Students will no longer have access or be given kitchen utensils during break or lunch time. Please ensure that your child has the appropriate cutlery if they bring a hot lunch to school.
