Eblast from the Head of Middle School, 2/7

"Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take but by the moments that take your breath away" ~ Maya Angelou

Dear Middle School Families,

I have always been a person who embraces change. Most of my life, I have had to adapt to many changes quickly and effectively in order to succeed. From emigrating to the U.S. and adapting to a very different culture to transitioning into administration three years ago, every change I’ve experienced has been an opportunity for growth and adventure. Come June, I have chosen to embark on another adventure. While I am retiring as an educator and administrator, Palm Valley will always be a part of me as it has been a second home for me and my family. I will continue to cheer for and support you and your students long after June. I am thankful for the countless times my breath has been taken away in my twenty one years here. I am also thankful for your trust, friendship, and support. This school will always be a home for my family and me, so I will not say good-bye, but instead, au revoir.

Mensch Foundation
Our eighth grade students were invited to participate in a valley-wide essay contest for the Mensch Foundation last month in preparation for the Holocaust Remembrance Day observance. Students were asked to read the memoir of Alexander White, M.D. entitled, Be a Mensch and then write an essay sharing what they learned. Our very own Lily Jones and Kyle Knight were recognized as this year’s winners. Congratulations Lily and Kyle! They had an opportunity to join an international zoom meeting with Holocaust survivors and share their perspectives on the book.

Box Tops and Amazon Smile
Box Tops for Education is now online and digital, with an easy to use app. Families can download the Box Tops app and scan their receipt(s) within 14 days of purchase to earn cash (typically 10 cents per Box Top item, although additional incentives are offered). Users don't need to know what products are eligible, when the receipt is scanned, the app will show the box tops earned at that time and credit PVS. When online shopping for groceries, you can still earn box tops for purchased goods by submitting your emailed receipt from certain retailers. If you have questions, our PVS Box Tops for Education Coordinator is Sarah Dunn, dienys@hotmail.com.

Amazon Smile is another program that can help support PVS. When families purchase from Amazon, visiting smile.amazon.com first and indicating PVS as their donation site of choice will bring monies into our school (plus it will now remember PVS for each purchase once you have indicated it the first time), a small percent (0.5%) of that purchase will benefit our school.
