"A smile is the light in your window that tells others that there is a caring, sharing person inside." Denis Waitley
Dear Palm Valley Families,
Welcome fall! What incredible weather we are having. This is what we wait all summer for, isn't it? Our campus saw a lot of traffic this weekend. Friday marked our annual Middle School Halloween dance and the Upper School's overnight "Scarefest" lock-in. Special thanks to all the teachers and administrators who attended, helped organize, and cleaned up from these fun events. Additionally, our campus on Saturday hosted the Coachella Valley Relay for Life event. It was really inspiring to see so many people come out to fight against cancer and to better fund cancer research. What an incredible event! We are so honored to have been sponsors this year and to support their efforts. On Sunday, our Upper School GSA club marched in the Palm Springs Pride Parade to represent Palm Valley School and our commitment to equality. I am in awe of the ways that our great school is entwined in the larger valley community and how our students, faculty, and families are connected to and support so many other important movements and non-profit organizations. The spirit of our value "responsibility to self and others" is alive and well in these and other efforts. Great job, Firebirds!
This Friday we will be hosting our annual Wine Night, "Sips for Success" on our Lower School campus. This is a great way to meet other families. Our Lower School Courtyard will be transformed by the stylings of Planks and Patina, owned and operated by a great family in our Lower School. We have wine selections generously donated from PGA WEST and Acqua California Bistro for tasting, a silent auction with fun and fancy items to bid on, and tons of great socializing opportunities with our families and friends in the Palm Valley community. You can purchase your tickets or an Events Pass to attend all our Fundraiser events at a discount here or at the door this Friday. Our events are all open to the public, so feel free to invite others! Please come and join us for a lovely evening in this glorious weather to taste some great wines, socialize with other families, and support our great school. I hope to see you there!
I want to personally thank all of you who attended my first Coffee with the Head of School last week. It was a great turn out of families from all divisions with rich conversations all around. One of my favorite moments was asking each parent to introduce themselves to the others in the room. In addition to giving their name and ages of the children, how long they have attended, etc. - each parent was asked to also say why they chose Palm Valley School. The answers were incredible. Stories that ranged from finding common values with a community to personal stories of challenges they've encountered in other schools that Palm Valley was able to address. I left that Coffee Hour feeling so inspired by each of the stories that were shared that day. Several conversations continued after the Coffee and even into a thread of emails later in the day! The love for your children in choosing a school that is the right fit, the connection that parents and families feel to our community here at Palm Valley, and the dedication you have for supporting and improving all aspects of this community (small and large) is palpable. Thank you to those who came and who shared with us - we value your feedback, both positive and constructive. I'll be hosting my second Head of School Coffee this Thursday, November 8th at 8:30 am in the MPR.
Make it a great week, Firebirds!
