Monday Notes from Head of School, 11/4

Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.” – Melody Beattie

Dear Palm Valley School Families,

What an incredible week this has been for our community! Last week was Spirit Week with a dress up day every day. Our Firebirds threw themselves into dressing for the occasion! We also had a great time decorating themed doors for competition, coming together with our buddies at the Halloween Assembly, walking in our annual Halloween parade, and Trick or Treating with our buddies around campus. The beaming smiles and hallways filled with laughter said it all. Then last Friday, we kicked off our first Spirit Assembly of the year to celebrate our athletic teams and other groups who have been working hard this year to represent our Firebirds in the community. A special thanks to our Upper School ASB, Caroline Scheil (President), and Ms. Clark, their advisor, for all their hard work organizing a great event to showcase school spirit! If that weren't enough, we had an incredible Fall Festival this weekend on the Lower School campus. In the five Fall Festivals, I have attended in my time at Palm Valley - this one was one of the best attended and filled with community spirit. An incredible thanks to all members of our amazing Parents' Association, led by Theresa Hall (President) and honorary Fall Festival coordinator, Briana Jordan. Lastly, our Upper School GSA organized and invited members of our school community to join them in marching together in the Palm Springs Pride Parade yesterday. Our GSA Student Administration worked hard on creating a logo and invitations, and they are supported by Mr. Griffin, their sponsor. What a whirlwind of community gatherings and festivities we have had! I am so grateful for all the support and efforts that go into these events and more, and I continue to be impressed with the teamwork and collaboration that helps our community come together. Thank you to everyone who had a part in these or other events recently!

In addition to thanking our Parents' Association for their hard work, I want to invite all parents and adult family members in the community to join us tomorrow, Tuesday, November 5th at 8:15 am in the MPR for our monthly PA meeting. This is a great way to be involved and informed about the efforts of the PA in support of our students and families. All parents and adult family members are automatically included in the PA just by simply having a student that you support being enrolled. Please come join us for a cup of coffee and a quick meeting - we need you!

I want to send a special thank you to those who have already given so generously to our Annual Fund this year, #TogetherWeRise. We are about a third of the way to our goal for the year, and gifts are still coming in every day. Please consider a gift that is right for your family. This is a great way to show support for all students, faculty, and programs at Palm Valley School. The success of our Annual Fund ensures that we can offer all the various programs and events that we put on each year. It pays for a lot of extras beyond what tuition covers. Last year, we had almost 65% of our families participating and we want to see that number soar! Remember that #TogetherWeRise and your gift is important and helps us attain our goals. You can give online or stopping by the Business Office anytime. All gifts to the Annual Fund are tax-deductible. Thank you for your consideration!

Lastly, I want to invite everyone to our Annual Veteran's Day celebration next Monday, November 11th at 8:30 am in our gymnasium. We will be honoring veterans in our community as well as all those serving around the world. As one of the only schools open on this day, Palm Valley School students take time to learn about and remember those who have given their time and lives to the service of our country. It's an incredible tradition at Palm Valley School. Our students, led by Mr. Paul Kay, have an incredible celebration prepared. Please plan to attend and get there early for premium seating!

Thank you for all you do to support Palm Valley School! Make it a great week!

With gratitude,

Susan Rice
