Weekly Notes from the Head of Lower School, Sept. 6

Dear Lower School Families,

Welcome Back! I am so happy that the 2017 - 2018 school year has begun. The first week of school is over, students and faculty are getting into the routine, and you can feel the excitement and positive energy throughout the Lower School! What a great feeling it is to greet students in the morning and hear about how much they enjoy their classes.

I look forward to seeing all families tomorrow evening at Back to School Night. The evening begins with a short presentation from Mrs. Rice at 6:00 pm in room E4-4. You will be dismissed to visit your classroom teacher from 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm. Our Specialist Teachers will be in their classrooms from 7:00 pm until 7:15 pm. (If you have more than one child enrolled in our Lower School, you can split your time, or stop by the additional classroom at 7:00 pm.) Please note that this is an adults-only evening. We would like to have all parents and guardians present for this important informational evening, so please make arrangements for your children so that you may attend.

There has been much positive feedback about the new school uniforms. Please remember that every student will need one of the new formal uniforms. All School Picture Day is coming up on September 26th, and 1st through 5th grades have a field trip to the McCallum Theater on September 27th. Students are required to be in proper formal (dress) uniform on both of these days.

Please note the changes to the tardy and attendance policy outlined in the Lower School Division Handbook, which was sent home with your child. If you have any questions, please reach out to me.

Have you visited the new website? It has been completely redone and contains information on "everything PVS" including details on upcoming events, a user-friendly calendar, and more. Be sure and visit the new site: www.pvs.org.

Mark your calendars:
-Student/Parent/Teacher Conferences on October 4th
-Faculty Professional Development Day on October 9th (No school this day. We will be offering a mini-camp, see below.)
-Red Ribbon Week Assembly on October 25

I am pleased to welcome Mrs. McGrew as After-Care Supervisor. She will be supervising and organizing our Mini-Camps. These will be held on Professional Development Days, other no school days, and during some school breaks for a minimal fee. They will be structured much like summer camp with activities, games, and crafts. More information is forthcoming.

I am in the midst of scheduling Grade Level Coffees and will be sending you an invitation shortly. I hope to see you there. This is an opportunity to hear more about the Lower School, ask questions, and get to know you each other. In the meantime, please reach out to me if you have any questions; ffisher@pvs.orgor by phone (760) 328-0861. I hope to see everyone tomorrow night at 6:00 pm.

Kindly,

Mrs. Fisher
