Weekly Notes from the Head of Lower School, 6/5

"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of fire." - W.B. Yeats

Dear Families,

This is my last weekly eblast of the year! As I look back on this academic year, I can’t help but reflect on all we have done to equip our students for the future and ignite some fires along the way. You will be receiving two mailings this summer. The June mailing will have the CTP V results and the summer assignments. Our August mailing will include a list of needed supplies and other information for the start of the new school year. Our offices are open this Summer from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm Monday through Friday.

Though we are all excited about the summer break, it is important for students to have a routine to help them practice and maintain some of the skills acquired during the academic year. This article has some great ideas to prevent “Summer Learning Loss.” click here There are some wonderful programs through our local libraries to encourage reading, as well.

Tomorrow, June 6th, is our Graduation and Promotion Ceremony. This is a time when we as a community come together to celebrate our graduating seniors and promote students to the next grade. The ceremony will start at 6:00 pm at the Hyatt Hotel in Indian Wells. Students should arrive no later than 5:30 pm and Banner Carriers are expected at 5:15 pm. Students should report to the Grand Salon Ballroom. The location of the ceremony will be clearly marked- (Salons I - L.) Parents are asked to stay for the ceremony rather than drop students off.

We have a busy last day of school on Friday, June 7th. Students should wear their regular uniform or spirit shirts. This is not a free dress day. There is a special awards assembly in the gym at 8:30 where we will be announcing Honor Roll and High Honor Roll recipients in our Fifth Grade, as well as give special awards and recognition to several of our Middle and Upper School students.

Send your student with a towel, modest swimsuit, water shoes or flip-flops, sunscreen, and a hat. Make sure everything is labeled. Students will enjoy pizza for lunch, thanks to the Parent Association. After lunch, they’ll change into their swimsuits for WATER DAY. Please consider volunteering to help this day- we are still in need of several helping hands! Volunteer.  School is over at 3:00 pm and there is aftercare if needed.

Our Girl Scout Troop 112, had an amazing year! The list of activities and service to the community is a lengthy one. If you would like to participate next year, please contact Ms. Jennifer James: jennifer@jenniferjameslaw.com   We are also looking for adult volunteers to help with activities as well as a co-leader to expand our troop to include Daisies (Kindergarten and First Grade.)

Don’t forget to check out this year’s Curiosity Summer Camp:  details. The camp runs from 7:30 - 5:30 June 10th - 14th, June 17th - 21st, and June 24th - 28th. Each week is different - you can sign up for a single day, a single session, or all three weeks.

I hope you and your family have a wonderful summer break. Thanks to all of you for your support of our students, our teachers, and our school.

Warm Regards,

Mrs. Fisher
Head of Lower School
