Weekly Notes from the Head of Lower School, 4/25

“You can find poetry in your everyday life, your memory, in what people say on the bus, in the news, or just what's in your heart.” -Carol Ann Duffy

Dear Families,

This is the culminating week of National Poetry Month. If you have been on our Lower School campus, you can see (and hear) poetry everywhere! TomorrowThursday, April 26th is "Keep a Poem in Your Pocket Day." Thanks to Mrs. Jones, Ms. Rotman, and their incredible group of volunteers, our Lower School students will be given a poem when they arrive at school to keep and enjoy. The Fifth Grade has their poetry recitation on the same day. Our First Graders shared their poetry with the sophomores, and most classrooms will welcome a visitor who will recite their favorite poem. These are just a few examples of our campus-wide celebrations of poetry!

Casting Call!
I sent information and permission slips last week for you to register your child to participate in the professional musical production of Wiz of the West, based on The Wizard of Oz. The Missoula Children's Theater will be returning to PVS for the third year, and the musical has become a favorite annual event.

The tryouts and rehearsals will be May 7th - 11th, beginning at 3:15 pm in the gym. There will be two shows on Saturday, May 12th, at 3:00 pm and 5:30 pm. The cost is just $50 per student. All students will have a part in the production. This nominal fee helps defray the cost of hosting the production company and includes two tickets to the performance. Additional tickets go on sale Monday, April 30th. They are $5.00 for students and $10.00 for adults. See Erika in the Lower School office to purchase yours. Please call the office if you have any questions.

We are in need of a piano accompanist for this production. If you play piano or know someone who does, please contact me for details.

Our students have been working hard to prepare for the annual Spring Sing. Please mark your calendars for Thursday, May 17th. The students have a fantastic show planned for you. The performance will be at 8:30 am in the gym.

This month's family dine-out to support PVS is at Chipotle in Palm Springs tomorrowThursday, April 26th. Be sure and present this flyer when you order.

This week, our students were treated to a preview of the Middle School musical production of Alice in Wonderland Jr. I was in awe of our talented students and cannot wait to see the performance. Performances start this Friday, April 27thFor tickets or more information, visit pvs.org/tickets. This is one show you will not want to miss!

Please remember my door is always open. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns.

Warmly,

Mrs. Fisher
Head of Lower School
