Weekly Notes from the Head of Lower School, 4/10

Dear Families,

April is National Poetry Month! There are some important developmental benefits of poetry for children. Poetry helps in language development, creative language skills, creativity, writing skills, self-expression, and in the development of fluency and expression. Teachers in the Lower School are focusing on poetry the entire month. I encourage you to read poetry with your children. Here are a few sites that can help:

Yearbook

Who do you want to SLIME? - Coin Drive
Make sure you choose before it is too late! Who will it be? Mr. Klausz, Mrs. Fisher, Mrs. Mulé, Ms. Steinman, or Mrs. Rice? Voting is easy - STEP 1: Collect coins, loose change, quarters from the couch cushions. STEP 2: Bring them to the Lower School office this week. STEP 3: Place your coins into the bucket with the name of the person you want to SLIME! Next Thursday, April 18th is the last day to bring in your coins. The person with the most coins in their bucket will be slimed during morning assembly!

Lower School Talent Show
Our annual Lower School Talent Show will be on Thursday, April 18th at 6:00 pm in the Gym, followed by an ice cream dessert. Interested students need to complete the permission slip and obtain a parent signature. All students are expected to attend rehearsals on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, April 15th - 17th from 3:15 pm - 4:30 pm in the gym. Please send the lyrics and music to me before the first rehearsal. Details are on the permission slip. If you'd like another copy, please see Ms. Kaban in the Lower School Office.

College Affordability Planning Night
It’s never too early to start planning for your student’s future! Educational Funding Solutions presents College Affordability Planning Night at Palm Valley School. At this free event tomorrow, tomorrow, April 11th at 5:30 pm you will learn that you can develop a customized plan to meet ALL the educational costs you will incur for college. Sign up here.

Looking Ahead:
Friday, April 12th: Report cards are sent home.
Friday, April 19th: Early release day. Students are dismissed at noon, and there is no lunch or After-Care.
Monday, April 22nd - Friday, April 26th: Spring Break, Mini-Camp is available Tuesday through Friday, sign up at www.pvs.org/camps.
Friday, May 3rd: Flapjacks for Families pancake breakfast starting at 8 am.
