Weekly Notes from the Head of Lower School, 3/28

“Stay true to yourself, yet always be open to learn. Work hard, and never give up on your dreams, even when nobody else believes they can come true but you.” -Phillip Sweet

Dear Families,

When I read this quote, it makes me think of Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel. These were two friends from Cleveland who were very poor and not popular in school. They created Superman and Clark Kent. The first rejection letter they received said, "The trouble with this kid, is that it is too sensational. Nobody would believe it."

I use this example when talking to students about persevering through challenges and following their dreams. Studies show that students who develop grit and perseverance are far more successful in college and beyond. There are several articles and books on this topic, one which I recommend is Grit, by Angela Duckworth. I will admit that persevering through challenges can be difficult, especially in my case as I try to improve my golf game!

I hope to see everyone at the Talent Show tomorrowThursday, March 29th at 6 pm in our gym. Our Parent Association will serve an ice cream treat after the performance. It would be a great family event to attend before or after you dine at Blaze Pizza. Tomorrow you can support Palm Valley when you dine at Blaze Pizza Palm Desert from 5 pm - 8 pm. Be sure to show this flyer.

The last day of the quarter is Friday, March 30th. The Fourth Quarter starts when we return from Spring Break on April 9th, and report cards will go home on Monday, April 16th.

Celebrated by millions around the world, Nowruz begins with the advent of Spring, and this year it began on March 20th.
