Weekly Notes from the Head of Lower School, 3/14

"Nobody can do for little children what grandparents do. Grandparents sort of sprinkle stardust over the lives of little children." -Alex Haley

Dear Families,

I was fortunate enough to have my grandparents live within 20 minutes for most of my life. They always made me feel safe, secure and loved. This Friday, March 16this Grandparents and Special Friends Day. It is a time for students to celebrate those who fill this role in their lives whether it is a grandparent, a special friend, a family member, or you.

A light breakfast will be offered in the area outside of the Administrative Offices, beginning at 7:30 am, followed by a performance in the gym at 8:30 am featuring our Pre-K through 5th grades and some of our Middle and Upper School students. After the program, we invite our guests to visit the students' classrooms. For the safety and security of the students, please sign them out with the teacher if you plan on taking your student to the book fair or off campus directly from the gym. This is a minimum day and students are dismissed at noon. For your convenience, After-Care will be offered until 5:30 pm. Dress uniform is required this day.

Our annual book fair is this week. It is open Tuesday - Friday, March 13th - 16th in the MPR. The hours will be 7:30 am - 8:20 am and 3:00 pm - 3:40 pm Tuesday through Thursday, and Friday before and after the Grandparents and Special Friends performance. This event is a great way to support our teachers and school.

The Annual Lower School Talent Show is on Thursday, March 29th at 6:00 pm in the gym. Our Parent Association will serve an ice cream treat after the performance. Teachers sent permission slips home this week. Students must attend auditions on Monday, March 26th and both rehearsals on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 27th and 28th. These will be in the gym from 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm. Please return the permission slips as soon as possible.

Our next PVS Dinner Out Event will take place at Blaze Pizza in Palm Desert on March 29th from 5 PM - 8 PM. Show this flyer and 20% of your purchase will benefit PVS!

Re-enrollment contracts and deposits are due as soon as possible to reserve space for next year. We have seen an increase in applicants and tours, and anticipate waiting lists in several grades for the fall. Please reach out to me via phone or email (760) 328-0861 or ffisher@pvs.org if you have any questions.

This year's Middle School Play is a musical performance of Disney's Alice in Wonderland, Jr. Join precocious and curious Alice on an adventure that is altogether fantastical and memorable. Thirty-one talented singing and dancing Middle School actors and actresses under the direction of Mr. Gahnz and Mr. Sarkis will bring it all to musical life, this Spring, on stage at Palm Valley School. This show is guaranteed fun for all ages! Performances begin April 27th. Visit www.pvs.org/tickets to purchase tickets.
