“The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be ignited.” -Plutarch
Palm Valley educators strive to ignite those fires in students’ minds by encouraging them to try something new, helping them find new ways of perceiving knowledge, discovering solutions, and seeing mistakes as opportunities to improve. By encouraging students to do so, they can discover a passion and affinity for science, music, art, coding, math, sports, and more.
If you are like me, you may have made a few New Year’s resolutions in the past that never became a reality. One study shows that 63% of respondents to a survey about keeping resolutions admitted to having broken one in the past and the majority of these admitted to doing so within just one month. This year, I decided to take Plutarch’s famous quote to heart, try something new, and hopefully develop a new passion. (A few years ago, this was golf, and I still love it- well, most days.)
The kickoff assembly for the American Heart Association Jump Rope for Heart was postponed due to rain. It will take place tomorrow, January 11th (9:30 for K-2nd and 10:15 for 3rd - 5th), in the MPR. Students will be bringing home information packets or you can find out more by clicking on this link. While support of the Heart Association is welcomed, our goal is to educate our students about the importance of heart health.
There are several dates to keep in mind. Monday, January 15th is a school holiday in honor of Martin Luther King’s Birthday. The end of the 2nd quarter is Friday, January 26th. There is an Admissions Open House on Sunday, January 28th from 1:00 - 4:00. This is a great time to bring friends and show them our wonderful school! RSVP here.
Looking ahead, Saturday, February 10th is our Casino Royale Gala and Fundraiser, for tickets, visit pvs.org/annual-gala. Move Up Day is onFriday, February 16th. This is an opportunity for students to spend time in the next grade level, get to know the teachers and see what they have to look forward to next year. You will get more details in the next few weeks. Move Up Day is one of our students’ favorite events.
You may see some new faces on our campus! Please join me in welcoming the six new students and families that started school Monday. Have a wonderful week!
