"What I love about Thanksgiving is that it is purely about getting together with friends or family and enjoying food. It's really for everybody, and it doesn't matter where you are from." -Daniel Humm
Dear Lower School Families,
We are just a few days from Thanksgiving Break. You may be busy planning a meal or travel, but consider taking a bit of time each day to read! On average, in 2017, kids under eight years of age spent two hours and 19 minutes on screens a day, and 48 minutes of that on devices, like tablets and smartphones. That’s three times what kids spent on mobile devices in 2013. We know the benefits of reading for students, but did you know that there are studies that show that for adults, reading just 30 minutes a day reduces stress, boosts brain power, may stave off Alzheimer's, improves empathy and helps with sleep? Who knows, by doing so, you may be starting a whole new Thanksgiving tradition!
We are collecting donations for victims of the California wildfires. Mr. Williams and the Christy family will be delivering supplies to the Red Cross and Salvation Army in Northern California this weekend. The main request is for gift cards to Target, Walmart, Home Depot or Lowes. NO CASH, please. However, toiletries, blankets, clothing are also needed and much appreciated. There are donation bins located in each division office.
Did you know we have a mini-camp available during Thanksgiving Break? Mrs. McGrew and her team have some wonderful activities planned for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, November 19th -21st. Sign up at pvs.org/camps.
Mark your calendar for Giving Tuesday! Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season. #GivingTuesday is a movement that celebrates and supports giving and philanthropy nationwide. On Tuesday, November 27th, give your gift to Palm Valley School via our website, social media, or in person to receive a special social media shout out! This is a time of year when we all take time to reflect on our many blessings. I consider it a blessing to be part of the Palm Valley Community, and I am so thankful that you share a most precious possession with us -- your children. I hope you and your family enjoy the break and have a very Happy Thanksgiving!
