Weekly Notes from the Head of Lower School, 11/13

Dear Families,

I love this time of year! Not only are we enjoying crisp, cool mornings and planning for upcoming holidays, but our students have settled in and are thriving! They are used to routines, feel comfortable taking chances, making mistakes and learning from them, and asking for help. I encourage you to take a moment to see how far your child has come since the first day of school. Look at their writing, the math skills they’ve acquired, the improvement in reading, and, most of all, how their confidence has increased!

Some items to note:
You are invited to see the final performance of our acclaimed Middle School production of Twelve Angry Jurors on Friday, November 15th at 7:30 pm. Click here for tickets and more information. There are only a couple of tickets left, so act fact. Warning - this show may have content inappropriate for very young children.

Keedy's Fountain & Grill here in Palm Desert is offering a 20% discount off the entire bill to PVS staff, students and families during the months of November and December. All you need to do is show a school ID!

It was an honor to be chosen as the Coachella Valley premiere of NASA's Space School Musical, serving as a model for other schools throughout the valley. This was made possible through a grant from the Anderson Children's Foundation. Special thanks to Kellee McQuinn, the founder of KidTribe, for creating and directing this Telly Award-winning hip-hopera that teaches students about science through the performing arts. You can learn more at www.kidtribe.org. You can see our Lower School Students’ production here.

Last week, Lower School students participated in the annual SumDog Math competition. Several classes from around the Coachella Valley entered. Our students shone in the competition! Mrs. Schnure’s Second Grade class placed first! Other winners were Mrs. Deshpande’s class - 2nd place, Mrs. Bajaj’s class - 4th place, Mrs. Kisling - 6th place, Mrs. Kaiser - 9th place, and Ms. Lusty - 10th place. Two students, Sami Alnabelsi and Charles Davis tied for first place with the most correct answers out of the total number attempted.
