Weekly Notes from the Head of Lower School, 10/23

Dear Families,

Many thanks to all of you who attended the Lower School performance of Space School: the Musical. I am sure you all agree our students did an outstanding job. What a fun way to learn about science! I have to admit, some of those tunes are still playing in my head. I will forward a link to the video as soon as it is available. (Thank you, Mr. Kaminsky.)

Next Friday, November 1st is the end of the first quarter, and report cards will go home on Friday, November 15th. If you are not aware, students begin to receive letter grades in Fifth grade. Kindergarten through Fourth graders are graded based on how they are meeting expected developmental standards.

Here is the breakdown:

Excellent
Exceeds developmental standards most, if not all, of the time
G
Good
Meets developmental standards
most of the time, exceeds standards some of the time.
S
Satisfactory
Meets or is approaching developmental standards
N
Needs Support
Not meeting developmental standards most of the time

October, November, and December seem to be the busiest time of the school year. Please note the following events.

On Thursday, October 24th, there will be a presentation called Effective Financial Planning. The presenter is Dennis Stewart from Educational Funding Solutions. This free event will be held at 5:30 pm in the MPR, and will show how to develop a plan to meet your children’s college education and your retirement needs.

Sunday, October 27th is the annual Golf Cart Parade. We’d love for you to represent Palm Valley School and walk alongside our float. The theme is “Let the Good Times Roll!” Be sure and dress 50s style. There is a sign-up sheet in the Lower School office. For more information, contact Abby Sturgeon at asturgeon@pvs.org for more information.

Monday, October 28th, is the Third through Fifth Grade level coffee. You are invited to meet me at 8:05 in the Lower School Library. This is a great opportunity to ask questions about our programs and meet other Lower School families.
