Weekly Notes from Mrs. Fisher, 1/9

Dear Families,

Happy New Year! It has been great getting back into the school routine this week and hearing the students' stories about how they spent their time off.

I have written before about the importance of struggling and perseverance and its effect on the brain. Jo Boaler is a leader in this area. Click this link to view a short video explaining the importance of the struggle and why it is even good for students' developing brains. There is also a version for students to view, click here. Her book, Mathematical Mindsets, and website YouCubed.orgare a wealth of information and well worth your time. My subsequent e-blasts will have information and resources for you to help your student.

Keeping it green!
Mr. Kroe will be working on a new project with the students. He is asking for donations of broken toys, games which may be missing pieces, legos, anything that is headed for the trash or donation. Students will be re-purposing these items to create an outdoor art project. He has also asked students to bring in a plastic lid from a disposable container (examples: coffee canister lid, grated cheese tub lid, Pringles container lids).
