A Message from the Head of Lower School

The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.

 –Alvin Toffler

Dear Lower School Families,

This quote caught my attention because it seems to fit with the current times as we navigate through this pandemic. Knowledge about the virus and safety guidelines continually change, and we have all had to learn, unlearn, and relearn. I invite you to attend Dr. Sherman’s 2nd Annual State of the School Meeting on Tuesday, October 19th at 9:00. He will be going over Palm Valley’s COVID-19 plan, upcoming events, and more.  To join, please email mgreer@pvs.org to receive the Zoom link.

Palm Valley School will participate in the Great California Shakeout on October 21st. I encourage you to visit this webpage for information about earthquake preparedness: SHAKEOUT

As the weather gets cooler,  please remember the uniform guidelines for sweatshirts and other outerwear- all must have the PVS logo and purchased from Norman’s Uniform, Land’s End, or our Spirit Store. For your convenience, the Spirit Store is open Thursdays from 7:30 am - 9:00 am. You can also email them: spiritstore@pvs.org. Please remember to write your child’s name on the label to make it easier to return found items.

School photos are ready to view and order Text PVSFALL21 to 90738. You’ll receive a text with information about how to view the portraits and place your orders.

Students are looking forward to the Annual Halloween Parade of Costumes on Friday, October 29th (with some modifications for safety protocols). Students will be gathering in the gym at 9:00 am. At this time, Dr. Sherman will announce the winners of the classroom door decorating contest. Parents are invited to view the parade by lining up along the pathway leading from the gym to the Lower School. The parade will begin at approximately 9:15 am. Parents must wear masks.

Student -Led Conferences are on Monday, November 1st, and there are no classes that day. Teachers will send information about making appointments. The YMCA is offering a day camp. Pre-registration is required, along with a minimum of 10 campers. To register, please go to www.ymcaofthedesert.org or call the YMCA: (760)341-9622.

November 11th, Veterans’ Day, has always been special at PalmValley School. Unfortunately, due to COVID, we cannot have the traditional assembly where we invite families and local dignitaries to honor our veterans.  This year, students and staff only will gather outside for a small ceremony. Then, all students will walk a lap around the football field to honor our Veterans. We invite the school community to join us in raising money for The Wounded Warrior Project. If you would like to donate, please do so by clicking here.

The Parent Association’s annual wreath fundraiser ends on October 22nd. You can turn in envelopes and orders into the Lower School Office or place an online order: www.giftitforward.com
