Eblast from the Head of Lower School, 5/2

“If we worked on the assumption that what is accepted as true really is true, then there would be little hope for advance.”
- Orville Wright
Dear Lower School Families,
If there is one lesson that students should learn at a young age, it is never never never give up. Our teachers take every opportunity to encourage students to keep going, embrace their mistakes, and try again. For me, the story of the Wright Brothers’ success is the definition of tenacity and perseverance. The brothers knew they would fail every time they tried, but their cycle of “crash, rethink, and rebuild” finally paid off. At the same time, a man named Samuel Langley was also interested in building the first flying machine. He had tens of thousands of dollars in funding and incredible resources. The Wright brothers only had a toy and a dream. Guess what, they won!

Please remember to provide your child with a reusable water bottle. Several students forget them daily. We have some small paper cups available when this happens. However, as the heat rises, so does the need to hydrate!

The school dress code contains several options for students. Shoes: Athletic shoes should be worn and be as close to a solid color as possible, be unobtrusive in appearance, and lack unusually bright colors or embellishments. Socks: Socks should be one of the following solid colors, white, black, tan, brown, grey, or red only, no navy. Leggings: If appropriate for the weather, students may wear leggings in the same solid colors as socks. Students must wear leggings under uniform bottoms, shorts, skorts, or uniform dresses. The complete uniform policy is listed in the Handbook for Students and Families. Parents and guardians, please help in carrying out this policy.

Teacher Appreciation week is here! Hopefully, you got the email the Parent Association sent last Wednesday. They specifically need help with the Appreciation Station on Tuesday, May 4th. The P.A. will set up the Lower School station from 7:30 - 8:30 at the student drop-off area where students can make a card for their teacher(s) or take supplies home to do so.  All cards are due back the morning of Thursday, May 6th. (There will be a red box at the screening station.) If you have any questions, please contact the Parent Association via email: pa@pvs.org. The PA would also like to encourage our families to participate in Teacher Appreciation Week in their own way.
The Administrative Team will provide a free pancake breakfast on Monday, May 17th, from
7:30am-9:15 am as a thank you.  All PVS families are invited to join us in front of our MS/Admissions Building. We are looking forward to holding this event on our campus and creating more memories with our community. An adult must accompany students.
The Yearbook Staff is sponsoring a class competition for yearbook sales! The classroom with the highest percentage of yearbook purchases by May 14th will win donuts! The yearbook is  $70 and can be purchased with cash or check, in the Lower School Office, or online. Click here: here. Good luck to each of the grades!

We will be hosting a Kiddos Lingua Spanish Summer Camp from June 7th - June 11th! Cruz Language Academy presents the camp. It is open to kids of all Spanish levels- beginning, intermediate, and advanced. Campers will be immersed in Spanish through games, songs, outdoor play,  hands-on activities, arts and crafts, and performances. The cost is $320 for the week. (A minimum of ten students are required.) Based on interest, we will add more weeks in June. For more information and to register, click here: SUMMER CAMP!

Camp Invention is coming July 26th - 30th. Parents can go to the website:  CAMP. Click the “Find My Camp” button and enter your zip code. The planned program is amazing. There are a few spots still available.

We sent information about Summer Sports Camp at Mission Hills Country Club. These run throughout the summer, which solves the problem of what to do in July and August. Contact Patrick.Guion@clubcorp.com 760.328.5800 for more information.
