Eblast from the Head of Lower School, 4/18

You can find poetry in your everyday life, your memory, in what people say on the bus, in the news, or just what’s in your heart.
- Carol Ann Duffy

Dear Lower School Families,
April is National Poetry Month. As a classroom teacher, I looked forward to April when we focused on writing, interpreting, and reciting poems. Poetry helps in language development, creative language skills, creativity, writing skills, self-expression, and in the development of fluency and expression. I encourage you to read poetry with your children. Here are a few sites that can help: Poetry4kids               Classic poem for children               www.poets.org
It is a tradition in our Lower School to celebrate Poem in Your Pocket Day. This year, it is on Thursday, April 29th! We will have a special poem to give every student when they arrive and teachers will be sharing a favorite poem with their classes.
Thankfully, the number of COVID cases is decreasing. As I write this newsletter, our county is in the orange tier. We will continue to maintain and follow all health and safety protocols and are offering two After School Clubs - Technology and Art. Although the Technology Club is full, there are a few slots available for Third, Fourth, and Fifth graders in the Art Club. I will be sending information on AfterSchool Sports Clubs in the next week.
We want to celebrate our families by providing a free pancake breakfast on Monday, May 17th from 7:30am-9:15am. All PVS families are invited to join us in front of our MS/Admissions Building for a breakfast made by the Administrative Team. We are looking forward to holding this event on our campus and creating more memories with our community.
The Yearbook Staff is sponsoring a class competition for yearbook sales! The classroom with the highest percentage of yearbook purchases by May 14th will win donuts! The yearbook is  $70 and can be purchased with cash or check, in the Lower School Office, or online. Click here: here. Good luck to each of the grades!
Because of the extra stress of the pandemic, we have been more lenient with the uniform policy. While you are still able to buy uniforms through Norman’s, we are being flexible about what students are wearing for bottoms. As long as they are in compliance with the color, (khaki or black only)  and style of Norman’s pants and skirts, (no leggings or yoga pants,) you can send your student to school with bottoms purchased from another store.
Please note that the HyFlex program is designed for students whose families opt to keep them home, rather than physically come to class for extended periods of time. It is not designed for students who are absent for a day or two because of an illness. Because HyFlex teaching and learning is time-consuming for teachers, we ask for advanced notice should you decide to use HyFlex so teachers can plan for grouping and, if necessary, differentiated assignments.  We also require a signed agreement.
NEW summer opportunities: We will be hosting a Spanish Summer Camp from June 7th - June 11th! The camp is presented by Cruz Language Academy. It is open to kids of all Spanish levels- beginning, intermediate, and advanced. Campers will be immersed in Spanish through games, songs, outdoor play, hands-on activities, arts and crafts, and performances. They will complete a project to enhance their conversation, grammar, listening, writing, and reading skills. The cost is $320 for the week. (A minimum of ten students are required.) Based on interest, we will add more weeks in June and July. For more information and to register, click here: SUMMER CAMP!
I will be sending home information about other summer Sports programs soon.
We have several campers signed up for Camp InventionJuly 26th - 30th. Parents can go to the website:  CAMP. Click the “Find My Camp” button and enter your zip code. The planned program is amazing. There are still spots available.
