Next Wednesday, March 17th is St. Patrick’s Day, a favorite of Dr. Mary O’Neil, the founder of Marywood Country Day School. Students in the Lower School may wear a green shirt and/or accessory this day. (Please wear regular uniform bottoms, and athletic shoes. (This is not a free dress day.) The Parent Association will be selling St Patrick’s Day bracelets for $5 each on Wednesday, March 17th during morning drop-off at Lower, Middle and Upper School. Each student who purchases a bracelet will get a bonus Free Dress Day on Friday, March 19th. If your student buys a bracelet, make sure they remember to wear it on Friday to show that they are eligible to participate in the bonus Free Dress Day.
If you have not had a chance to visit the virtual book fair, please do! You can do so by clicking on this link: BOOK FAIR The book fair closes on March 22nd. Proceeds from the annual Scholastic book fair go directly to the classroom. Teachers are able to select books and materials to build their classroom libraries. Last year, we used some of the funds to purchase a variety of books across multiple genres that are representative of the diverse world in which we live, including diversity in race, class, disability, and religion. We also created a special collection of books to be used as part of our Social Emotional curriculum. Several teachers have created a wish list that they are posting on Class Dojo in case you are interested.
On March 30th, your child can have a meet and greet with the Easter Bunny. You will receive a digital photo, and $5.00 of the $20.00 price will benefit Martha’s Village and Kitchen. Click here for more information: BUNNY
Friday, April 2nd is an early release day, as Spring Break begins. Kindergarten through Second Grade will dismiss at 11:15 am and Third through Fifth Grades will dismiss at 11:30 am. There is no lunch and no AfterCare. School offices will be closed for Spring Break, April 5th - 9th. Classes resume on April 12th. (This is also the first day of the fourth academic quarter.)
It is not too early to start making summer plans. I am thrilled that we will be hosting Camp Invention from July 26th - 30th. Parents can go to the website: CAMP Click the “Find My Camp” button and enter your zip code. The planned program is amazing. You can save $40 by registering before March 31st! This is an acclaimed STEM camp presented by the National Inventors’ Hall of Fame.
By now, you should have received your welcome letter, contract and school calendar for the 2021-2022 academic year. As we look ahead to next year and try to estimate our staffing needs, we ask that you please get your signed contract and deposit in by April 15th. This year, in particular, we have been seeing an influx in new residents to our valley and classes are filling up quickly. I can’t wait for another year together - getting back to a more “normal” year.
Please remember that we have early dismissal on Fridays! Kindergarten through Second Grade are dismissed at 2:00 and Third through Fifth Grade are dismissed at 2:20.
