As we come to the end of the first academic quarter, I am reminded of this quote. The last day of the quarter is Friday, October 30th, and report cards go home on Tuesday, November 10th. Most students cannot wait to share their grades with you. As they do so, I advise you to look beyond the letter grade to your students' progress since the beginning of the year. That "G" or "B" or "S" or "A" only tells part of the story and does not reflect perseverance, effort, or growth. These factors contribute to developing a Growth Mindset, which is the key to success beyond college.
Simply put, a Growth Mindset is a belief that we can learn needed and new skills at any time and that perseverance and hard work can help accomplish goals. Our teachers help students see that mistakes are expected, inspected, and respected. "Failures" and errors should be viewed as gifts and opportunities. This article has some valuable information and a video to show your students to encourage them in their journey to develop a Growth Mindset: click here.
There have been several questions about our uniform and uniform policy. It is outlined in the Handbook for Students and Families. We are aware that the supplier, Norman's Uniforms, is low in stock for some pieces. Therefore, you may go to a retail store and purchase shorts, skorts, or pants in the same color. Our formal uniform calls for neckwear. The Spirit Store has it for sale, and we also have some you can purchase in the Lower School Office. For safety reasons, we require athletic shoes to be worn. As we (finally) move to cooler weather, please be sure that sweatshirts and outerwear are labeled. Please reach out to your teacher or me if you have any questions.
Parent Association Fall Fundraiser
Make sure to keep your eye out for the Fall Wreath Fundraiser packets that are coming your way. The fundraiser begins this month, and proceeds will go to supporting Palm Valley students. Thank you in advance for your participation. All orders and payments are due back to Palm Valley by October 26th.
To maintain social distancing and safety protocols, we try to limit visitors who come to the office. We ask that you send students to school with their lunch rather than dropping it off. I understand that there are times when lunch is forgotten, but ask that you do your best to ensure this is the exception, not the rule. We have Lunchables available for students that need lunch.
Although it may look different this year, we are still encouraging our students to wear their costumes to school on Friday, October 30th! Faculty and staff have chosen a theme, and we are looking forward to seeing the students' faces when they see us dressed up. We will be having small classroom celebrations with fun activities and lessons instead of our typical costume parade.
Our fabulous Parent Association is holding a Family Drive-In Movie Night on November 7th! Each car has an entry fee of $40, and the movie showing is Incredibles 2! The venue will open at 4:30 pm, and the movie will start at 6:00 pm. Go to this link to get more info and to purchase your Car Pass!
Enjoy the rest of October!
