Eblast from the Head of Lower School, 10/11

Dear Lower School Families,

Thanks to all of you who attended the Student-Led Conferences on Friday. Teachers do their best to encourage students to self-reflect, set goals and take responsibility for their learning. We hold these conferences twice a year. Students will look over the goals they set at the Spring conference and see how far they have come in achieving them.

It is my pleasure to announce that our Palm Valley family is growing! Mr. and Mrs. Kisling are welcoming a new baby into their home. Mr. Kisling will be taking Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays over the next few weeks to be with his family. We have arranged for Mr. Kulm to fill in for Mr. Kisling when he is out. Mr. Kulm is experienced in technology and is working closely with Mr. Kisling on plans and lessons.

We have hired a new Athletic Director, Ms. Ebony Macias. Ms. Macias has over ten years of experience in high school and junior college athletics and has worked with students of all ages in the Coachella Valley through the Recreation District. We are excited to have her join the PVS family.

Sunline Bus Art Competition
Congratulations to middle school students Myles Rotman and Lily Jones, for winning this wonderful art competition. This year’s theme centered on how Sunline buses are important for the Coachella Valley and the environment. Lily’s art is currently featured on one of Sunline’s busses, and Myles’ piece will be displayed at one of their bus stops.

The Great California ShakeOut
Thursday, October 15, the entire school will participate in this earthquake drill. For more information, please visit their website.

Professional Development Day
Palm Valley Professional Development Day will be held on Friday, October 16. There will be no school for students that day, and faculty are involved in professional development activities throughout the day.  Due to a lack of interest, we will NOT be offering a mini-camp that day.

School Picture Day
Thursday, October 22. Please have your student come in their dress uniform for the photo shoot. If they would like to change into their regular uniform afterwards, that will be fine. For those participating in our Hyflex program, please contact Sarai, sjimenez@pvs.org, to schedule a time during that day to come in and have your child’s picture taken.

Parent Association Fall Fundraiser
Make sure to keep your eye out for the Fall Wreath Fundraiser packets that are coming your way.  The fundraiser begins this month and proceeds will go to supporting Palm Valley students.  Thank you in advance for your participation. All orders and payments are due back to Palm Valley by October 25th.

Please know that I am available to answer any questions you may have.
