"Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle, and the life of that candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared." - Buddha
Dear Palm Valley Families,
I had the great pleasure of attending our Lower School's Peace Pole ceremony on Friday. I want to send special thanks to Mrs. Fisher who organized the whole thing. Seeing and hearing our students sing and speak of the importance of Peace in our school, our community, and our world was so inspiring. The Peace Pole Project is a global effort that has installations all over the world in schools and in places of historical significance. We received several proclamations from local and state dignitaries sent in person or by representatives from their offices. Our students sang a lovely rendition of "Let there be Peace on Earth" which is one of my personal favorites. I love the sentiment of this particular song because the lyrics say "Let there be Peace on earth and Let it begin with me." When there is so much happening in the world that feels out of control, it's important that each of us remember that we do have great power within ourselves to demonstrate and share peace, kindness, and inclusion. I am so proud of our Firebirds for their contributions last Friday and every day! You can see more about our Peace Pole Ceremony here.
In the afternoon on Friday, we held our first Pep Rally of the year! Our Upper School ASB (Associated Student Body) leadership, led by Ms. Clark, put together one of the more creative, engaging, and spirited Pep Rallies that I have seen in the few years I have been at PVS. WOW! From the music they selected to the lighting changes, and the spirit games they had the Athletes play - it was a very fun afternoon that was a great time for our students of all ages. We are so proud of all our Fall Athletes who are playing MS Football, MS Volleyball, MS Cross Country, US Volleyball, and US Cross Country. Additionally, we were able to see a demonstration of our new MS Gymnastics PE class who came out to demonstrate some of their stunts and jumps to encourage the crowd. It was a great event, celebrating many of our students. Congrats to ASB and I am looking forward to the next one!
As you know, fundraising efforts are a necessary part of independent schools. I hope that all of you will consider giving to the Annual Firebird Fund this year - we are hoping to increase parent and family participation. Our peer schools often see parent participation percentages around 80-90% and even 100%! Palm Valley has grown in the last year from 40 to 45% and we would like to see that number keep climbing.
Every gift, large and small, matters - so please consider giving here today. Additionally, we are offering an "Events Pass" this year for a discounted ticket to all of our big event fundraisers. The Events Pass will only be sold until the Sips for Success Wine Night in November, so don't delay - save on ticket prices and buy your pass today for $300. This pass includes a ticket to the Wine Night, the Annual Gala (including the new Martini Lounge After Party) and a ticket to Fashion Night. We want all our parents to attend these fundraisers and not only help us to raise money for our great school and students, but to build community and strengthen our support for all the endeavors of Palm Valley School. You can buy your Events Pass here, I hope you will join us!
