MS Play: 12 Angry Jurors
November 8 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
12 ANGRY JURORS are sequestered to deliberate the fate of a young boy accused of murder.
About this Event
This fall, the Palm Valley Middle School Drama class of thirteen 7th and 8th grade actors has taken on a challenging piece of theater to stage for the community.
In the award-winning play by Reginald Rose called 12 ANGRY JURORS, a dozen very different personalities are sequestered to deliberate the fate of a young man accused of murder. In a two-act, 90 minute drama, beliefs clash and emotions rise as four men and eight women argue the guilt or innocence of the accused.
It may seem unusual for middle school students to take on the characters, plot and themes of such a play, but this particular class composes a group of dramatic actors who are exceptionally perceptive and gifted. Presenting a play of substance, one more complex than what’s found in many light-hearted middle school plays, will give them an opportunity to stretch and grow as performers.
To add even more to the challenge of presenting this play of a more sophisticated nature, students will also learn and master performance in an arena theater, with the audience surrounding the stage rather than facing it. We will present the play on a central stage, also known as theatre in the round.
Performances are: Friday, November 8, Saturday, November 9 and Friday November 15 at 7:30 pm. There is a matinee performance on Sunday, November 10, in the afternoon at 2:30 pm.
