|The 2018 National Shakespeare Competition was held yesterday, April 23rd, on Shakespeare's birthday at Lincoln Center Theater in New York. The ESU National Shakespeare Competition has been recognized by the Globe Center, the Children's Theatre Foundation of America, and the American Academy of Achievement. Palm Valley School students have been participating in this competition for years. Two years ago, current junior Jake Mulé was a finalist. Over 2,500 teachers and 20,000 students in 60 ESU Branches participate in the Shakespeare Competition each year. Finalists qualify by winning at the local and regional levels.
At yesterday's final performance, junior Jackson Dean recited his Iago monologue from Othello, Sonnet 55, and performed a cold reading before the crowd. 55 high school student finalists narrowed to 10 and eventually, a National Champion was selected.
We are thrilled to announce that Jackson Dean placed 1st out of 55 competitors to win the title as The English-Speaking Union National Shakespeare Monologue Champion! Please join us in congratulating Jackson!
The prize for 1st place is a Scholarship to attend the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art Young Actors' Summer School.
