Monday Notes from the Head of School, 9/16

"In order to fly, all one must do is miss the ground." - Douglas Adams

Dear Palm Valley Families,

As we walk into the third week of school, spirits are high, faculty and students engaged, and things are running smoothly. I am so grateful for the efforts of all our faculty and staff for the day to day operational tasks they accomplish to ensure that the student experience is exceptional. Additionally, I want to thank all of our families for their support of students. The relationships we build and make time to maintain are at the heart of our community at Palm Valley School. I am so inspired by those families who strive to keep that community spirit alive. You received an invitation last week to an all-school cocktail party that is being graciously and generously hosted by the Elbaz and Bagheri families on Sunday, September 22, in the Blu Ember restaurant at the Omni Las Palmas Hotel, from 6-8 pm. We hope that you will all join us for cocktails or soft drinks, community, and light bites. An RSVP must be sent by Thursday, September 19 to elbaz@me.com We are so grateful for the generosity of our families and their desire to build more opportunities for community in our school PS-12. All are welcomed for this adults-only event.

Thank you to those of you who have already given to this year's Annual Fund drive. We are already seeing donations coming in for this year, and we are so grateful. The Annual Fund is a part of most every independent school in the country. In most places, it helps to close the gap between the cost to educate every child and the price of tuition. In many instances, it allows schools to move the school ahead with new programs and initiatives, equipment and supplies, or to include specialist teachers that offer services and curriculum beyond the basic curriculum. The benefits are far reaching and ensure that all children receive an incredible education, please consider giving to the annual fund. Last year, we were able to drive our participation numbers up from 30% of our families giving to almost 65%. This year, our goal is to reach 75% or more. So, if you have given in the past, we hope that you will continue to give and if you have not, this is your chance to make a difference. #TogetherWeRise is this year's theme and it's only with your support that our students, faculty, and programs can continue to rise. We hope that you will consider supporting our school this year with a gift. Whether you can afford to give $25 or $25,000 your gift matters to us and helps us to drive up the participation percentage and reach out goal of $350,000 to raise. You can give by clicking here or making a visit to our Business Office. All gifts are 100% tax deductible. This year, our giveaway for family participation is a branded Firebird Flier for tossing around on the lawn or in any wide open spaces together! This nylon flier is a more sustainable alternative to a plastic disc flier and it folds up into its own carrying case, so you can take it anywhere easily. A fun way to celebrate your generosity and support of Palm Valley School. Thank you for your consideration!

I hope that all families have had an opportunity to meet some of our incredible new families this fall! We welcomed 65+ new students in Preschool - Upper School in August and we are so thrilled to have them with us, along with their families. I am hosting a special Coffee in the MPR for all new families to meet with me and other key administrators on Monday, September 23rd at 8:15 am. I'll provide coffee and pastries, you provide the questions and topics to discuss. I look forward to seeing you in person and sharing some time discussing matters of the school and your child's development and needs. Welcome!

Make it a great week, Firebirds!

Warmly,

Susan Rice
