"Life's most persistent and urgent question is 'what are you doing for others?'" - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Dear Palm Valley Community,
As you may know, last week was National Teacher Appreciation Week. We are so grateful for and proud of the Faculty here at Palm Valley School. One of our values is "inspiring, passionate, and innovative teaching." I can say with confidence that the Faculty here at Palm Valley embody that value fully. When you walk into a classroom on our campus, whether in Preschool, Lower School, Middle School, or Upper School - you will see students engaged in learning, laughing and enjoying their lessons with peers and faculty, and generally loving what they are learning. It is a beautiful thing and something I know not all schools can say they have every day. We are very fortunate to have the talented, dedicated, and charismatic teachers and staff that we do here. I hope that each of you takes a moment to thank a teacher that has meant something to your child or your family. Thank you, teachers!
I also want to extend a special invitation for all Palm Valley families to join us on Wednesday, May 22nd at 5:30 pm for a special double-header evening in the MPR. In conjunction with the Board of Trustees committee for Equity and Justice, one of our Diversity events this year will be hosted by our Upper School student GSA (Gender and Sexuality Acceptance) chapter. The GSA leadership team will present Let's Talk Gender and Sexuality, a program for parents and students – followed by a Family Potluck Dinner. After this short program, please stay and join us as The Drama Department stages their annual Fullerton Follies at 7:00 pm, a compilation of scenes performed at this year's Fullerton Theater Festival. Please support our work in the area of diversity and inclusion at Palm Valley School and come learn more about the GSA and other programs. Our Palm Valley families are diverse and we love that. Come celebrate that diversity with us!
Lastly, next week we are hosting a clothing drive to support members of the Coachella Valley who are in need. You can bring any new or gently used clothing items for children or adults to school any day next week to help us with this project. Our commitment to service learning and to demonstrate "responsibility to self and others" through community service projects is strong. We are so happy to help Angel View with donations from our school community that will, in turn, help our larger community. Plus, it's a great time for spring closet cleaning! Any donations that are made next week will be picked up on Friday, May 24th. Thank you for supporting PVS and the larger Coachella Valley in this way!
Make it a great week, Firebirds!
