Monday Notes from the Head of School, 3/5

Dear Palm Valley Families,

It's hard to believe that we are in the month of March already! What a great year it's been so far. Last week was "Read Across America Day" and it was so much fun to see children dressed as their favorite Dr. Seuss characters and the excitement about reading happening on campus. I had the great pleasure of reading two of my favorite Dr. Seuss books in the Lower School - one to our 2nd graders and another to our 3rd graders. I loved it! One of the things that Read Across America Day reminds us of each year, is that every day can be like this! We can and should all take the time to read for our own pleasure, to read to one another, and especially, to read to our young children or to share something we have read with our older children. It's a great way to model the ongoing love of learning and to engage with our children in meaningful ways - even into the teen years!

As a reminder, we have Student Led Conferences coming up this week on Wednesday, March 7th and while most all of you will travel to campus that day to take part - we are closed and no classes will be held. Our offices are open for regular business hours and we also have a mini-camp session for families of children in PS-5 who need childcare that day. Mrs. McGrew and her team have a very fun and engaging day of activities ready for your students should you register and attend. Click here to register for our March 7th mini-camp. Additionally, we will also have a mini-camp available for families in PS-5 on Monday, March 12th while our Faculty has a Professional Development Day. Click here to register for our March 12th mini-camp. Our offices are open that day from 9:00 am -3:00 pm and no classes will be held.

Next week is two of our most popular and exciting events on campus! The Scholastic Book Fair that is sponsored by our Parent Association will be transforming the MPR in the Middle School into a literacy wonderland! Please make plans to stop by and do some shopping with your students before or after school hours. More information will be sent home this week about this event. Additionally, our Grandparents and Special Friends Day is approaching quickly on Friday, March 16th. A breakfast will be offered in the area outside of the Administrative offices, a program of songs and drama acts will be presented in the gymnasium that morning, followed by classroom activities and fun on campus for all families to enjoy! A personalized invitation has been mailed to every Grandparent and Special Friend that we have a record of, but please reach out and invite loved ones and relatives in your own families for this special day to celebrate our students and their extended families. Please note that all students will be dismissed early on that day - After-Care will be available. See your Division Head for more specific information on release times and program.

Thank you for all you do to make Palm Valley School such a great place to learn and grow. Our students are incredible and that starts at home! I am grateful to be in partnership with so many wonderful families at Palm Valley School for the success of our students. Thank you!

Best,
Susan Rice
Head of School
