Monday Notes from the Head of School, 2/4

"Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much." -Helen Keller

Dear Palm Valley Families,

I just returned from one of my favorite conferences in Los Angeles, our annual CAIS Heads, and Trustees conference. I, along with two of our Trustees, attended and heard some compelling keynotes and participated in engaging workshops on topics ranging from school safety to financial planning, and more. It's always refreshing to hear about our peer schools and to share exciting things that are happening at Palm Valley. One of the most exciting that I have to share is congratulations to one of our incredibly talented students, Jackson Dean, who won the Poetry Out Loud competition this weekend and will advance to the State Finals. We are so proud of Jackson, and of all our students who competed in Poetry Out Loud this year. Please join me in congratulating him as he represents us in Sacramento to see who will go on to represent the state of California in the National Finals. We are rooting for you, Jackson!

Thank you to everyone who contributed last week to the Annual Fund for our Class Competition. We reached a new record in giving participation of 55% and are closer to reaching our financial total goal of $300,000 for this year. We could not do it without the generosity of our families, grandparents, faculty and staff, Trustees, and more. Your generosity and support helps us to continue offering high-quality programs that are above and beyond what tuition covers. We are so thankful for your continued support. The Annual Fund lasts all year, so it's not too late to contribute if you have not been able to yet. We also have a day of giving in the spring and some other competitions to make it fun - please consider joining us to build our capacity for excellence. You can always visit our website to give to the Annual Fund here.

As you know, enrollment contracts for the 2019-2020 school year have been sent out and are due back soon. If you have any questions about the school, plans for the future, or anything at all, please consider setting up a meeting with your Division Head or with me to sit down and talk. One of the ways that I have found very effective in answering questions and sharing the vision of the school with families is through these one-on-one meetings. I began the fall meeting with all new families and am now making my way through the lists of returning and long-time families to sit down and talk. I enjoy having face time with parents and learn a great deal about our school and your experience through those conversations. If you have not had an opportunity to sit down with me this year to talk and would like to, please contact Sarai Jimenez at to schedule a time that works for you. We are also reaching out to families one by one, so don't be alarmed if you get an invite! I hope to see you soon!

As always, we are grateful for all you do and we are looking forward to a great spring semester! Go Firebirds!
