Monday Notes from the Head of School, 12/10

"The Holiday Season is a perfect time to reflect on our own blessings, and seek to find ways to make the lives better of those around us." -Terri Marshall

Dear Palm Valley Families,

WOW! I had the incredible pleasure of seeing our Upper School students perform in their magnificent fall play this past weekend, The Drowsy Chaperone. Our students are so talented, and the hard work that went into putting it on the stage from both the cast and directors was obvious. I am so grateful for the many long weeks of coaching and directing Mr. Paul Kay and Mr. Ken Sarkis put into this play and into our students and their roles. I am further thankful for all our parent volunteers, including Ms. Leslie Scheil for her coordination and backstage work, and one of our great alumni parents, Ms. Kim Phillips, for her choreography and coaching. This stellar team had me, and all the audience members, laughing so hard we were crying. Congratulations to the cast and crew of The Drowsy Chaperone!

I want to thank all our supportive families who have already given or pledged to give to this year's Annual Fund. Thank you for helping us #FeedTheFire! We are well on our way to reaching our goal of 100% participation from every family! In addition, we are so grateful for the Alumni and Grandparents who have given to this year's Annual Fund, and to our Board of Trustees and our Faculty and Staff who have so generously given at the 100% level. I am always surprised to learn that sometimes our families aren't aware that as a non-profit organization, any donation you make to the Palm Valley School is tax deductible. So, if you make a contribution to the Annual Fund by year's end - you can take your tax deduction for this year as well. When we return in January, we will be continuing with our Annual Fund campaign and holding a "class competition" for each grade level on our campus. Every grade level that reaches the 100% family participation level will be invited (students and their parents) to an Ice Cream Social in February to celebrate and enjoy ice cream from Ben and Jerry's! Whether you can give $50 or $50,000, every gift makes a difference in the lives of our students and helps to support programs that benefit all our students. Thank you for your generosity and for your consideration!

Lastly, as we wind down to the winter break, there is so much busy-ness that we are asked to attend to as we prepare for family gatherings, holiday parties, and more. My wish for all our students, faculty, and families these last two weeks of school is that all are filled with the kindness of the season, the presence of each other, and laughter. There is much to be done, make no mistake, but all of you deserve time to enjoy it, too! Please consider taking advantage of the two "Santa's Workshop" sessions being offered by Mr. Kroe. The first session is today! Children will make gifts for family members while you get your own holiday shopping finished up! To sign up, click here. A huge thank you the parents and families assisting with classroom holiday celebrations and arrangements. I hope to see all of you at our annual Ugly Holiday Sweater and Hot Chocolate Day on Wednesday, December 19th!

Regardless of which holidays you celebrate this season, we are grateful for you and yours. Thank you for all you do and for being an integral part of our community at Palm Valley School!

With gratitude,

Susan Rice
