"For it is in giving that we receive." -St. Francis of Assisi
Dear Palm Valley School Families,
Today we observe Veterans Day at school. As such, I want to say thank you to all our servicemen and servicewomen. Their sacrifice and service is humbling and it's an honor each and every year to recognize them and give thanks. Our Veterans Day assembly is one of my favorite traditions at Palm Valley. Watching and listening to special speakers, inviting Veterans from the community to visit our school and be recognized, hearing our children's voices in song and poem to give thanks and remembrance - makes for a great day. This event is just a small way for us to show gratitude for what is an immeasurable gift they have given to our country and to each of us. I am grateful for the opportunity and honored to be part of a community that values service and actively seeks out opportunities to honor "responsibility to self and others" in our school and larger communities. Thank you to everyone involved and to Veterans everywhere for their service.
I am pleased to announce that we will be coordinating a drive in the coming weeks to assist families and businesses affected by the California wildfires in the North and South ends of the state. Many have lost everything and are currently in transition from being evacuated. Supplies, large and small are needed. Toiletries, clothing - you name it. Several students and faculty have reached out to me to ask permission to host a drive and we are working on putting that together now. Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected, and those worrying about their loved ones during this time. Please stay tuned for more information coming soon about items to donate and our coordinated efforts to collect and send them to those who need them. As always, I am proud of our community for their thoughtfulness, their efforts, and their sense of kindness in these situations. Thank you.
Lastly, I want to thank those of you who have sent in your Annual Fund gifts so far this year. I am in the process of making phone calls to families who have not yet been able to give - we want to reach 100% participation this year and we need your help to do so! We have a long list of maintenance projects, safety upgrades for the campus, and other items that need to be addressed along with our usual support of extra-curricular programs in the arts, athletics, electives, and more. Some of the items that we are hoping to fix or replace this year are spread throughout the campus and divisions. It's also possible for families to earmark their donations for specific uses like, to build the endowment, help finish the fencing around the middle school, lawn and ground care, teacher professional development, and so on. We are grateful for your participation in the Annual Fund and every gift matters to us and makes an impact. I hope that you will join the many who have already given or pledged and send your gift today. You can always go online to give or come in to see us. We would love to hear from you!
I am so grateful for our community - your care, kindness, and mostly, involvement. Thank you for stepping up to help make us such a great community! Go Firebirds!
