Monday Notes from the Head of School, 10/29

"I believe we can change the world if we start listening to one another again. Simple, honest, human conversation." - Margaret J. Wheatley

Dear Palm Valley Families,

I know that my Monday Notes often start out this way, but this week it's as true as ever! What an incredible weekend this was! On Saturday, our Parent Association, led by Sally Hawthorne and her team, put on one of the best Fall Festivals that I have attended in my time at Palm Valley. We had a great turn out, some really wonderful student and teacher booths, delicious food, games, a petting zoo, and so much more. A special thanks to all the hard work that Sally Hawthorne, Jodi Wiseley, Tasha Romo, and our Parent Association members put in to make this year's event so special. On Sunday, our Student Ambassadors and Boy Scouts organized an astounding entry into the annual El Paseo Golf Cart Parade! The Student Ambassadors were led by our wonderful new Director of Enrollment Management, Shannon Markel. We had students, families, and even teachers who joined us to don capes and masks to walk along with our decorated Golf Cart chanting "P-V-S" and waving to the crowd. I am so grateful for everyone's efforts and all the hard work and creativity that goes into these events and more. It's these kinds of events that make our school community so special. Our students were captured in a great photo by the Desert Sun. You can see their school spirit beaming proudly. Our theme was "Teaching is our Superpower!"

If you have not already done so, please consider purchasing your Events Pass for our annual fundraiser events. Our Wine Night, annual Gala, and Fashion Week reception are all part of the Events Pass. These are only available until the Wine Night on Friday, November 9th so please don't wait too long. You can buy them at pvs.org/winenight18. It's a great way to support our school and build community with our fellow Palm Valley families at the same time! You save $85 by buying the pass instead of individual tickets. Planks and Patina will transform our Lower School courtyard into a Moroccan oasis under the stars! Enjoy some incredible wines from California vintners and bid on unique silent auction items. All proceeds benefit the school and help support our students, programs, and more.

Last, but not least, we will be enjoying our annual traditions surrounding Halloween this week - but, with some upgrades! Our new Buddy Program will be incorporated into our Halloween festivities this year! Middle and Upper School students have all been designing and decorating their Advisory classroom doors and surrounding areas in anticipation of a contest this week. We will be judging their Door Decorating efforts this Tuesday after school. Winners will be announced at our Annual Assembly and Parade that will take place Wednesday morning at 8:30 am. Students will be processing with their buddies this year and we would like to invite all parents to come and join us for the 8:30 am assembly and parade. Following the parade, students in buddy pairs will be trick or treating to the newly decorated doors on campus. Classroom parties will take place later in the day. Parents and families are always welcome and encouraged to join us for this fun day! If you have any questions, please see your child's classroom Teacher, Advisor, or Division Head.

Make it a great week, Firebirds!

Best,

Susan Rice
