Monday Notes from Head of School, 4/27

Dear Palm Valley Families,

Can you believe it's the end of April? I can hardly believe it myself. While this quarantine has made for a very different spring, the change in the weather to triple digit heat reminds me that some things never change! I continue to be proud of and impressed by our faculty and students in their transition to Distance Learning, and grateful for our parents and families who are supporting them through it all. Thank you for all that you do and for being our partners in the education of your children.

Another great feat to celebrate this week is that we have raised $43,000 towards the $50,000 matching grant so generously provided by the Richard Brooke Foundation. We are so grateful to have the opportunity to raise money with this matching grant. The Richard Brooke Foundation, who are already major donors at Palm Valley, have generously given us two grants, one of which is a $50,000 matching grant for a campaign to inspire others to contribute. So now it’s up to the rest of us to help. The school can recover the lost revenue this spring if you or other family members can DONATE to claim this matching grant and help us to raise a total of $100,000 together. The Board of Trustees and I are all contributing what we can, but we need your help. This will ONLY be possible with your generosity and support. We recognize this is a difficult time to ask for additional donations, but every dollar counts, every gift makes an impact, and we want to DOUBLE your generosity with this matching grant. Please consider a gift today to support students, faculty, and programs that mean so much. Your gift will ensure that our school can continue to thrive in this time of challenge. This matching funds campaign will run from TODAY through May 1, 2020 to help us through the spring. You can donate here and instantly receive double credit with a matched gift from The Richard Brooke Foundation.

We are in the midst of solidifying our plans for the end of the year celebrations and graduation/promotion and hope to share a plan with you soon. We want to make this celebration of our students/ accomplishments as special as ever and we appreciate your feedback and ideas. A special thanks to Kaminsky Productions for assisting us with the virtual portion of the program and helping us to bridge the distance in these events in light of the School closure mandate. I am also pleased to report that Dr. Sherman will be on hand for planning and support, as well as overseeing these events. If you have not had the opportunity to read his letter to the community or make contact with him yet, please reach out to him at his new email address: to welcome him and share your thoughts about our great school.

I hope that you are all healthy and happy and ready for a full week of learning and growing with Palm Valley School!
