Monday Notes from Head of School, 4/20

Dear Palm Valley Families,

I hope that you are returning to Distance Learning this week having had at least some sort of time to relax over the spring break. It goes without saying that your family is taking on a tremendous task at home, to support your students in Distance Education, to care for your household, and for many of you - to continue working, just now from home! I want you to know that my heart and mind are with you every single day. I know the burden you are bearing during this time, as many of our Faculty and Staff are right there with you, managing our own children and households, while continuing to teach and provide activities and lessons for yours. We are in this together, as partners for our community, and while the stresses of our "new normal" seem to drag on - I hope that you know we are here for you! We look forward to coming together again soon, in person, but until then - reach out to us if you need anything!

You have read in my previous eblasts that we are now under the Riverside County Health Department order for campus to remain closed through June 19. As such, we are currently making a few changes to the structure for the end of the year activities, and of course, for our awards and our graduation and promotion ceremony. We remain committed to providing the most fulsome experience for our students that is possible given the circumstances that remain out of our hands. We are particularly proud of our students, who see their sacrifices this year in a positive light that serves the community's health and safety. However, it's important to acknowledge that many are mourning the loss of important milestones this year. We want to do what we can to celebrate them and all their accomplishments. As such, we currently have tentative plans for a virtual promotion and graduation ceremony  this spring and to have a physical, rescheduled graduation ceremony for our current seniors and their families in late December of 2020 to reunite on the campus and be together for a celebration and small ceremony.

We are still working on the details of a virtual celebration. However, we really want your input to make this event very special and meaningful. Please take a moment to complete this survey to share your thoughts, ideas, and give input for how that event might take place. We are planning on a combination of live/interactive and pre-recorded footage to showcase our speakers, choir, and our 5th, 8th, and 12th grade students in a format similar to our traditional graduation. Please take a moment to give your thoughts about this in a survey found here.

Thank you to everyone who gave to the Richard Brooke Foundation's generous matching grant! We are more than halfway there, and still need your help to claim the full $50,000 match. Remember, that every dollar helps, and every gift gets us closer to our goal on behalf of our school. Please consider a gift that you can give so that we do not miss out on this incredible opportunity. You can give a gift by mailing a check to the school, by giving on our Facebook page (click "Fundraisers") or through our website here. This offer expires May 1, and only donations received by that date will count, so help our community earn the full $100,000 with the matching grant! Come on Firebirds, we can do it!

Thank you for all you are doing and continue to do. We have a strong community and we need your support and strength. I am grateful for each and every one of you.

With gratitude,

Susan Rice
