Dear Palm Valley Community,
Our 2020 – 2021 school year is set to begin. It has been an eventful summer and I am sure that the upcoming school year will be unique in many respects. For the past week, our faculty and staff have been in physically-distanced meetings in preparation for the beginning of instruction on Wednesday, be that virtual or in-person.
On Wednesday, we will be physically re-opening our school and welcoming students for grades Kindergarten and younger while following strict CDC and CDPH guidelines. Detailed information pertaining to the Kindergarten and Preschool re-opening can be obtained by contacting our Preschool. We ask for your patience as student drop offs and pick ups may be slow due to the new protocols in place. Our 1st through 12th grade students will begin their school year on our Distance Learning platform.
The infection rates for Riverside County continue to show improvement. This morning, I submitted our waiver application for K – 6th grade in-person instruction. I will keep you informed regarding its status and how it impacts each of our grades. Please check your email on a daily basis for these updates.
While we are in remote learning mode, we recognize the need for our 1st – 12th grade students to be physically active. Therefore, we would like to offer our 1st – 12th grade students a weekly “afternoon athletics” program from 3 – 5 pm starting on September 8th. This program will be offering supervised, outside, physically-distanced activities on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays to our Lower School students and Tuesdays/Thursdays for our Middle and Upper School students. A parent acknowledgment form will be available for all interested families in the coming days. Note that this afternoon program will be discontinued for our Lower School students if a waiver is granted and we are able to re-open our elementary school campus.
I am looking forward to meeting our new Palm Valley families this evening at 4 in our gymnasium. Masks must be worn and appropriate physical distancing must be followed by everyone in attendance. Temperature screening and symptom checks will be required of everyone as well. This event is intended for parents only and we ask that students remain at home during this time.
I am pleased to announce that 9 members of our Palm Valley Middle School community were nominated for Desert Theatre League Star Awards for their role in the production of 12 Angry Jurors. They are Levi Kassinove and Indy Behr (Best Actor), Lila Nash (Best Actress), Gram Craven (Best Supporting Actor), Megan Briggs, Lilah Nick, and Lauren Bestawros (Best Supporting Actress), and Ken Sarkis and Leo Milmet (Best Director). In addition, the play was nominated for Best Production. Congratulations on being nominated!
