Dear Palm Valley Parents and Families,
A year ago, our lives were forever altered by the disruptive COVID-19 virus. While there have been many challenges presented to us in the last 12 months, I am proud of our Firebird Family. I am proud of our teachers and staff who have persevered to meet complex challenges and maintained our ability to safely offer in-person instruction. I am proud of our parents and families that have adjusted normal routines and cemented a strong school – family partnership.
While there is a swell of optimism now that vaccines are rolling out and restrictions are easing, we remain focused on providing a safe learning environment for our students, faculty, and staff. We continue to diligently maintain our defensive protocols of mask wearing, hand-washing, and maintaining appropriate distance. I am pleased that approximately 40% of our staff has been fully vaccinated and we anticipate that all staff should be vaccinated within the next few weeks.
We are excited about our upcoming “Un-Gala” next Saturday, March 27th. It will be outside, limited in capacity, and a great way to celebrate the year that lies behind us. There still remain a few tickets available. Please contact Abby Sturgeon for details.
Next year, we will be consolidating our administrative roles by introducing a Head of Middle and Upper School to oversee 6 – 12th grades. We have been busy gathering a strong group of candidates that will elevate our middle and upper school. Last week, the search committee met to review the candidates and settled on four finalists. These four finalists, which includes one internal candidate, will be visiting our campus for a day of interviews with parents, students, MS/US teachers, and school administration. Parents of middle and upper school students are invited to meet with each candidate from 9 – 10 am in the MPR for a socially-distanced meeting on the following dates:
Tuesday, March 23rd
Thursday, March 25th
Monday, March 29th
Thursday, April 1st
I am also pleased to announce that next year we are partnering with El Paseo Children’s Center to offer our families a new Learning Center that will provide extensive support for all of our students. This support will include testing services and academic, behavioral and social-emotional support to help augment our academic, athletic, and extra-curricular programs.
Next year promises to be very exciting as we anticipate returning to our full slate of academic and extra-curricular offerings. However, we must not lose sight of finishing this year strong! We have two more weeks until a much-deserved Spring Break. While I hope that you use the time to recharge a bit, if you plan to travel outside of the United States, please be aware that our policies regarding travel remain in effect.
Thank you for your continued trust and support…..
Dr. Steven Sherman
