Announcements from Head of School, 11/1

Good evening, Palm Valley School Community.

Last Friday marked the end of our first quarter of the school year. It was a unique and challenging first quarter for us all, but we must recognize our good fortune in our current ability to teach, guide, and mold our students in person for all grade levels. That is no small task given that we are still combating a global pandemic replete with economic uncertainty, fear, and constant change. We remain committed to frequent and transparent communication both within our school and outwardly to our larger school community. I continue to meet virtually with Riverside County health officials on a weekly basis to remain current on pandemic defense practices and research outcomes. In addition, we have become a source of information and guidance to other schools and school districts in the valley that are seeking to emulate our successful practices and procedures. That is a direct testimony to the professionalism, preparation, and care of our teachers, staff, and administration.

Though pandemic fatigue lurks at our doorstep, now is not the time to let our guard down. As we enter the second quarter of our school year, and more importantly perhaps…. the holiday season…. we must maintain our focus on handwashing, wearing of masks, and appropriate distancing. This includes both on campus and when away from campus. Each one of us can and should do our part. Though it is clear that this holiday season will look unlike any other holiday of past years, we can still have fun and enjoy our unique community! (Like yours truly wearing a funky and colorful 60’s suit for Halloween!) To that end, I hope to see all of you this Saturday at our Palm Valley Movie Night, sponsored by our Parents’ Association. Community events such as these that integrate defensive health practices have never been more important and I strongly urge you to come enjoy Incredibles 2 with your Palm Valley Family. We have been pleased to transition to the Procare App in the Preschool. It allows for greater functionality and support for both parents and teachers. In the Middle and Upper School, we have listened to feedback from students, parents, and teachers and adjusted our weekly academic schedule to both shorten our academic day and provide some block scheduling opportunities. This is but one example of our partnership together and the benefits that can emerge when we collaborate in a healthy way. Thank you for both your patience and input as we continue to seek ways to educate our students in our complex circumstances. Our recent success and ability to fortify our educational platform is due in large part to your trust, patience, and flexibility. For that we are grateful…. and humbled….

Thank you for the continued trust that you place in us to educate and care for your children….
