Announcements from Head of School, 10/4

Good evening, Palm Valley School Community.

It is my hope that this email finds you on the end of a restful weekend. There is much going on in our community and world right now. It is important for us to remain mindful of the need to care for ourselves by getting good rest, exercising, and eating healthy meals. That is wisdom for both child and parent alike!

I enjoyed seeing and speaking with many of you during my Head of School Chat last Thursday evening. I am humbled by those of you that found time during your busy schedule to tune in and listen. I felt privileged to have your attention and hope that you gained much from the presentation and greater insight into our school and my leadership role. Currently, I plan on hosting another opportunity in early December. Look for further details next month.

We have an important week ahead of us as we await the Riverside County tier status report on Tuesday. Remaining in the red tier will allow us to re-open our Middle and Upper Schools for in-person instruction beginning Monday October 12th. If that is the case, I will be sending out vital information to our middle and upper school families on Tuesday afternoon.

We are also preparing for Student-led conferences at the end of this week. Please contact your Divisional Head, Advisor, or class teacher if you have any questions about Student-led Conferences. As I mentioned in my eblast two weeks ago, school will be closed on both Friday, October 9th (for conferences) and Friday, October 16th (for Professional Development). That was a calendar change from our original school calendar necessitated by our Distance Learning format. School will be in session all other weekdays this month.

I remain proud of our continued use of defensive protocols to minimize viral transmission. Thank you for your diligence and support as we continue to practice proper mask wearing, frequent washing of our hands and the maintenance of appropriate distancing.

Thank you for the trust that you place in us to educate and care for your children….

Fondly,

Dr. Steven Sherman
Head of School
