Dear Palm Valley Community,
I know that many of you have been eagerly awaiting an update regarding the re-opening of our school next week and I had promised some of you that I would send this out yesterday. However, some things changed late yesterday afternoon and I wanted to communicate the most up-to-date news that I possibly could.
Next Wednesday, August 26th, we will be physically re-opening our school and welcoming students for grades Kindergarten and younger while following strict CDC and CDPH guidelines. Detailed information pertaining to the Kindergarten and Preschool re-opening can be obtained by contacting our Preschool. Our 1st through 12th grade students will begin their school year on our Distance Learning platform.
The infection rates for Riverside County have begun to trend in a positive direction. Therefore, starting next week, Riverside County will begin to accept elementary school waiver applications. It is our plan to submit our waiver application on Monday requesting a re-opening date of Tuesday, September 8th. Please keep in mind that it is only an application and must be accepted and granted by Riverside County. However, we are confident that with our small class sizes, ample space, and policies that exceed CDC and CDPH guidelines we are positioned well. We will be sure to send you notification when we are able to pivot from Distance Learning to in-person instruction in the coming weeks. We will also be sure to send you information and sign up paperwork for our Hyflex Online Learning Option that will parallel our in-person instruction.
While we are in remote learning mode, we recognize the need for our 1st – 12th grade students to be physically active. Therefore, we would like to offer our 1st – 12th grade students a weekly “afternoon athletics” program from 3 – 5 pm starting on September 8th. This program will be offering supervised, outside, physically-distanced activities on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays to our Lower School students and Tuesdays/Thursdays for our Middle and Upper School students. A parent acknowledgment form will be available for all interested families in the coming days. Note that this afternoon program will be discontinued for our Lower School students if a waiver is granted and we are able to re-open our elementary school campus.
For our new Palm Valley Families, I would like to invite you to our New Family Orientation next Monday, August 24th. It will be a great opportunity to connect with both staff and other parents as well as learn about Palm Valley School – your new school home. We will be holding the event beginning at 4:00 pm in our gym to allow for appropriate distancing and are requiring both face coverings and temperature checks upon entry. This event is intended for parents only and we ask that students remain at home during this time.
I hope that these updates help to keep you informed. During this school year, I will be sending regular communications to our families every other Sunday evening, beginning with this Sunday. During the weeks when I am not sending out a letter to our community, our Divisional Heads will be sending you communication – also on Sunday evening. So, moving forward, you can plan on hearing from the school in some fashion each and every Sunday evening providing you with important dates and event details.
