Dear Palm Valley Community,
I’d like to begin by saying “Happy Mother’s Day” to all of the moms in our school community. Moms hold a special place in our hearts as caregivers, champions of their children, and the ones who love us no matter what! I truly hope that your day was a special one!
The focus of this week's communication will be on the next few weeks and important end of the year milestones. Please read carefully as this letter contains some useful information that pertains to everyone in our school community.
With all of the recent changes and our transition to the Distance Learning format, I believe that both teachers and parents are weary. It is for that reason that we have decided that the last day of school will be Friday, May 29th. Despite this accelerated end date, students will be receiving full academic credit for the school year. We want to be sure to recognize and celebrate the ending of the school year and the milestones reached by our students, so we have planned a series of virtual “Promotion Celebrations” detailed below. For the Class of 2020, we are planning a physical Commencement Ceremony to take place on Friday, July 31st.
In addition, the ending of the school year comes with the need to clean out student lockers, turn in school technology, and collect yearbooks…. among other necessary transactions. Due to mandated health guidelines, this must be accomplished in an orderly and systematic way to ensure that these guidelines are upheld and our community remains healthy. We are, therefore, setting aside individual days that are divisional specific in which we are asking you to come to campus to facilitate the picking up of any personal items and the dropping off of any school property. We are asking that you make plans for one adult to accompany your child on the specified date below to accomplish these necessary transactions. The 6 foot social distancing space and facial coverings for all must be adhered to while on campus. Each divisional head will be reaching out later this week with sign up information to schedule pre-assigned times for each family. Please refer any questions that you may have to your Divisional Head (Preschool: Ms. Kaira Beach at KBeach@pvs.org, Lower School: Mrs. Francene Fisher at FFisher@pvs.org, Middle School: Mrs. Manny Mule at MMule@pvs.org, and Upper School: Dr. Kurt McLachlan at KMcLachlan@pvs.org).
For our Preschool families, stay alert for information about when we will be opening our Preschool to serve the families of Essential Workers. We are currently studying the possibility and requirements of doing so to better serve our community.
