Middle School Educational Philosophy: The goal of the Middle School program is to help students develop a strong sense of responsible and independent behavior, both academically and socially, while also monitoring their performance and directing their learning.
The students will come to know the meaning of each Commitment Goal and use them to guide their attitudes, choices, and interactions with others in the school community. The students will learn that being Knowledgeable is not simply just knowing facts, but is the ability to ask questions, inquire, reflect, and think critically. The students will learn that caring is not simply feeling empathy, but it is to be respectful and physically act in making a positive difference in the lives of others. The students will learn that being Determined is not simply the act of creating goals, but it is to stay motivated and persevere when things get tough, to demonstrate grit and take risks despite feeling uncomfortable with new or challenging tasks. The students will learn that being Open-Minded is more than just acknowledging personal differences. Being Open-Minded is about appreciating cultures and personal histories, being accepting and understanding of those differences, and having the willingness to grow from the experience. The students will learn that being Principled is more than just having a strong sense of fairness. Being Principled is about being able to act justly, being honest, acting with integrity and standing up for the rights of people everywhere. Our students will be taught to be committed to these goals in the endeavor of being a responsible member of our local, national, and global community.
The goal of Palm Valley School is to deliver an exceptional learning environment full of opportunities that stretch across many subjects that challenge students and enables them to be successful in future studies. With the school mission and Commitment Goals as a guiding light, students will also develop their personal character through service learning program extracurricular activities, and outdoor education. The advisory program is central to preserving the feeling of family within the school and addressing content that academic subjects can't cover. Participation in outdoor education, extracurricular activities, service learning and the advisory curriculum, will shape holistic, well-rounded, citizens of the future.
